When it comes to America the Constitution says we are a Secular nation. None of that Church-State Partnership: And yes we got it right. Early constructionists didn’t want sectarian wars when it came to religion.
They had seen enough bloodshed during the revolutionary war, and combat between Protestant and Catholics would have been too much to handle, especially when Catholics were greatly outnumbered and treated like second class citizens.
The Constitution, signed into effect September 17, 1987 under the watchful eye of George Washington in Philadelphia, was put in place to guarantee certain basics rights to its citizens. On September 25, 1789 the First Amendment was passed by Congress and Ratified December 15, 1791 including Freedom of Religion, forming the first 10 amendments making up the Bill of Rights.
The Right to Worship is freely expressed in America for the most part without interruptions. And most Americans are Christians, but America is not a Christian nation, according to the Constitution. Simply put it means everyone is free to practice his or hers religious beliefs.
But it’s a whole different story in other parts of the world, especially in Sudan, where Sharia Law rules and tyrants have no interest in welcoming non Muslims.
Mariam Yahya Ibrahim received a warm welcome in the Vatican after standing up for her Christian faith after facing the death penalty in Islamic Sudan. Along with her husband and two children she met with Pope Francis for about thirty minutes on July 25 2014 according to Reuters.
“The Pope thanked her for her witness of faith,” said Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi after meeting for thirty minutes.
While in Sudan, President Omar Bashir gave her the opposite treatment for simply professing her Christian Identity. Ibrahim was sentenced to death for marrying a South Sudanese Christian which is a crime in that country. She spent several months incarcerated, and gave birth in jail before getting her sentence overturned and allowed to leave Sudan. The only reason Bashir Government allowed her to leave was due to tremendous global public pressure.
Bashir was and still is a hardcore Islamist, meaning he has no need for Church, Constitution or secularism because the only system allowed is Sharia Law. If you are a follower of Christ or an atheist, you better keep it to yourself.
It is illegal for a Muslim to marry outside of Islam in Sudan where Islamic law and arabization is in progress.
Ibrahim says she was born in Sudan and raised as a Christian in an Ethiopian family and later abducted by a Sudanese Muslim family. But the Muslim family denied her claim and filed a lawsuit to have her marriage to a Christian annulled in order to stop her from leaving the country. The case was later thrown out and she was allowed to leave Sudan.
