Ethiopia Should Pursue a Red Sea Naval Base and Port In Somaliland

The Arab League doesn’t want Christian Ethiopia to develop into a regional power.
That’s why Egypt has been fighting tooth and nail to destabilize Ethiopia in order to reign supreme over the Red Sea and Nile River.
If Abiy Ahmed get a Somaliland Base, he will unite Amharas, Tigrayans, Oromos, and the Somalia region into a regional heavyweight with a united Ethiopia, just like Egypt has cemented Arab countries under the Arab League.
The League knows Somaliland has been operating as an independent country for over 30 years and progressing much better than Somalia because they have avoided political Islam. They are seeking their own country with the blessings of the West, who won’t recognize it until an African country with weight steps forward. With Ethiopia’s backing, you may get Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania for starters and that will entice Britain, France, Italy, and the USA to climb aboard.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is on board and has been advocating a modern form of Islam for some time, pushing back against Qatar and Turkey in Somalia and Egypt in Sudan. Egypt carries much weight in the Arab world and when Al-Sisi says Ethiopia is filling the GERD Dam illegally, what he means is that only Egypt can manage the Nile. Sheikh Mohamud, President of Somalia, may be in the driver’s seat with support from Al-Sisi and the League, but if he opens a military base in Somalia, Sisi will find his troops in hostile territory. Not only from Al Shabab but from neighboring African countries like Kenya, Uganda and others who won’t sit idly by and see Somalia with the help of his Arab League brothers destroy Ethiopia.

When Did Somalia become an Arab Country? I read where Somalia joined the Arab League in 1974, but are Somalis Arabs? No they are not Arabs and only a handful speak Arabic, unlike Sudan where Arabization took effect under Omar Bashir, the Islamist dictator, who beat it down Sudanese throats. Mohamud and his prime minister Hamza Abdi Barre should understand they have a government due to troops from neighboring African countries, including Ethiopia. You don’t want to cut off the hands that are keeping you afloat.
