Somebody had to standup to Tigray Ruffians and it appears God sent Abiy Ahmed to do the job. And he grabbed the bull by the horns, as he attempts to put his country on the right track towards Democratic Federalism.
The TPLF leadership is hell bent on destabilizing Ethiopia while keeping the people of Tigray Region poor and destitute while maintaining a massive fighting force that allows a few leaders to prosper.
Debretsion Gebremichael says his homeland is being invaded by foreigners, maybe he is unaware Tigray Region is not a country. He knows, and don’t care about a country called Ethiopia, as his well connected soldiers run through foreign borders with cache of gold bullions attached to expensive vehicles, like magnates.
Looting government payrolls by leaders from Tigray and other regions should have ended with the death of Meles Zenawi, but it didn’t. Making up only 6% of the population, but carrying a big stick as Zenawi successor Hailemariam Desalegn didn’t have the muscles to get rid of criminals leading a tribal democracy.
Abiy is not going to allow multiple standing armies to exist in a unified Ethiopia. It’s not working in Lebanon and won’t succeed in the Horn of Africa, revisit Somalia and it will be Al-Shabab or the government running the show.
No one is saying you can’t incorporate TPLF soldiers into Ethiopian Army or its politicians into the Prosperity Party, but it will work only if they are willing to put Ethiopia above tribe or their selfish interest.
Abiy got rid of thuggish tribal leaders in Somalia region and Oromo militants causing violence and destruction while managing to keep the country unified. So it shouldn’t seem strange when he went after the corrupt leaders in Northern Region. What he is offering is Ethiopian Nationalism, where pride is accented on country and not region or tribe.
The majority of Tigrayans are happy to rid itself of leaders who were only interested in increasing the size of their bank accounts and not upward mobility for its citizens.
Tigray fighters will continue to put up a weak show of force to regain power, but its all for naught, as Abiy was sent from above to unite Ethiopia.
