If Trump had any sense of fairness in Africa, he would have sanctioned Egypt and El-Sisi, a long time ago for murder, torture and imprisonment of thousands of citizens protesting the overthrow of democratically elected President Mohammed Morsi.
Cancelling 100 million in development funds to Ethiopia because they wouldn’t bow to your unfair deal on the GERD Dam, is not Kosher, Mr President. I say that because Your love for Israel is widely accepted and applauded by many Jews including Billionaire Sheldon Adelson, who has contributed millions to get you elected. And with all that help you may not get the majority of Jewish votes come November.
Trump’s Favoring Egypt over Ethiopia has very little to do with NILE WATERS.
Egypt’s help in controlling Gaza and Sinai is vital to Netanyahu and Israel in order to move the Embassy to Jerusalem, and turning a blind eye to illegal acquisition and demolition of Palestinian land.
It is a Payback for Egypt’s help in showing support and encouragement for the Abrahamic Accords Deal that helped in normalizing ties between Israel and several Arab countries, and to promote Israel acceptance on the Global Stage.
President Trump, the GERD DAM will regulate flow of Blue Nile waters into Sudan and stop the annual floods that’s been harming that country for centuries. The dam will also be a source of cheap electricity for both downstream countries. None of the Upstream countries want to harm Egypt, but they are sick and tired of Egypt’s clinging to outdated treaties giving them 55% of Nile waters and Sudan 18% while the rest goes to evaporation, leaving Ethiopia with droughts.
Ethiopia is on the cusp of becoming a middle income country, making great strides in opening up the Mining, Telecommunications, Banking and Agriculture economy to foreign investors. This will in turn provide jobs to millions who won’t have to escape death while seeking employment outside the country. But in order for Ethiopia to improve its economy they must keep peace at all cost. And that may include heavy handedness from the PM Abiy Ahmed, who is trying hard to improve healthcare, transportation and electricity in the Horn of Africa Country.
President Trump: do the right thing, Give back the 100 million you’re withholding from Ethiopia before you leave office.
