Rural African-American Museum Cultural Tourism

Located smack dab in the heart of Zydeco Country is a Museum dedicated to preserving the Customs and Culture of Rural African Americans in St. Landry Parish. The Museum  documents Slavery to the Creole Cowboy Culture that exist today, says founder and CEO Wilken Jones.

Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday is ongoing in Opelousas, the parish seat of St. Landry Parish, meaning parades, dancing and good food is being shared during this festive period of the year. Free Admission to tour Rural African American Museum and don’t be hesitant about leaving a donation if you so desire. The Museum is a 501 c 3 non-profit organization. We The People Network, Inc.

We the People Network is an non-profit organization created under the authority of Rev. Frank Rideau Jr., to provide guidance and expertise to young people from African American communities of Louisiana.

Formed ten years ago Rev. Rideau saw young people in need of strong leadership and financial assistance to complete their educational goals. That’s when he got the community involved and started the Trenise J. Rideau Memorial Scholarship Ministry, in memory of his daughter. His main goal was to improve education and healthcare while connecting major organizations in order to make his dream become reality. Every year he gives out Scholarship funds to deserving students, and organizations making a commitment to young people.

Rev Frank Rideau Jr., is a 1969 Graduate of Plaisance High School, Opelousas, La and Southern University, Baton Rouge, La.
