What a pity—a presidential pardon cannot be overturned or revoked. And now with his name cleared with the stroke of a pen Joe Arpaio can continue the hunt for Obama’s birth certificate.
Today, Federal Judge Susan Bolton dismssed a ‘criminal contempt of court’ conviction she issued back in July against former Sheriff Joe Arpaio, even after he was told to stop the practice of racially profiling Hispanics.
This means the pardon issued by President Trump is upheld and Arpaio cannot be re-tried for defying the order. What makes this really hard to digest is that “the toughest sheriff in America” as he likes to refer to himself, was facing the possibility of spending six months in jail for defying the court order.
When POTUS pardoned Arpaio for breaking the law, he reinforced a belief that is widely observed nationwide: It’s not what you know it’s who know.
When you’re connected to the most powerful person in the world that means you can commit crimes with impunity.
POTUS vociferously usurped the judge’s authority and forgave Arpaio for his crime. He took it a bit further and called him a great American, when it was a known fact the former Phoenix metro area sheriff was arresting people that looked Mexican, turning them over to ICE for incarcertion with no state charges against them. His department arrested so many that he built a prison in the desert.
So what’s next for Arpaio? Maybe he and Trump can form a duo, hit the campaign trail looking in all the wrong places for Obama’s birth certificate.
