Sooner, rather than later, the United States Government will come to grips that the high cost of healthcare is no longer affordable for the overwhelming majority of Americans. We need a plan with low monthly premiums and low, or no deductibles.
I had Obamacare (Affordable Care Act) several years ago prior to acquiring medicare. Thank God, I didn’t get sick because I couldn’t afford to pay the high deductible-in order to get a low monthly premium. But there are real life situations where family members were diagnosed with cancer, and had to purchase the ACA in order to cover existing illness. In many cases they wound up mortgaging the house in order to pay the deductible.
Each year the premiums continue to rise and in some states the increase is more than 50%. To counter the increase, the ACA plan provides tax credit or subsidies for incomes less than 47,000 a year per individual, and that amounts to approximately 80 percent of the 11 million subscribers. It is this subsidy that makes Obamacare somewhat affordable. Those earning more than $47,000 a year are going to have to pay thru the teeth to get the plan. The high income earners are not happy, as you can imagine. Those individuals in the upper income bracket and corporations will be footing most of the bill that makes ACA affordable for low income earners.
Republicans should not favor elimination of existing illness when replacing Obamacare. And they should allow children to remain on parents insurance until twenty five. The ACA is under the guidance of the federal government and the republicans are in favor of state dominion.
A better healthcare plan would be Single Payer National Health Insurance coverage, that would do away with high deductibles and lower tax on the middle class. A public funded plan instead of private insurers is needed in America. Free insurance for all Americans.
In order to support single payer healthcare plan, or Universal Health Care, Congress should cut defense spending and use the money to support the plan. We have troops all over Europe, Persian Gulf and Asia that is costing us plenty. Cut the size of troops and equipment and make these countries pay more for protection. Germany, Italy and United Kingdom are not poor countries. Add France to the mix and they could ward off any threat from Russia. So they should pay more with less U.S. boots on the ground.
We have troops in Kuwait, Qatar, United Arab and Saudi Arabia. Those countries are drowning in oil, and even though the price of oil is down, they have hundred of billions of dollars in reserve. Instead of pushing extremist ideology, that may come back to haunt them in the future, those that are funding extremism should stop and pay more for U.S. support. Cut the size of our troops in South Korea and Japan.
We have to cut spending in many departments. Let’s start by cutting defense.
