Black lives don’t matter to criminals

Black Lives Matter sends a strong message that police officers can’t kill Black people at will, but do they say enough about Black criminals who prey on hardworking individuals and innocent bystanders who happen to be black?

The family of Carroll Oliver, a black McDonald’s franchise owner in Houston, Texas who devoted more than 30 years helping people by providing jobs and financial help too many, may be asking the same question.

Criminals are looking for something of value, and usually it’s money.

According to news reports, the 68-year old Oliver was in the parking lot of his restaurant on I-10 East-on his way to the bank to make a money drop, when several men in a white SUV demanded his cash. But Oliver who has an open-carry-permit wasn’t having none of that, and went for his gun. A man in the vehicle shot him and they sped away heading west around 10 am January 11, without the loot.

Many in the Black community are saying “if he would have given up the cash he would be alive today. Maybe! Others say the bad guys would have killed him anyway- denying the possibility of testifying.

Nobody deserves to die like that. But criminals don’t give a damn about what color you are when holding a bag of cash. And the tragedy is they killed him for nothing. One of the suspects is described as a Black male about 5″10 and 225 lbs., according KHOU TV.

Attempted robbery in plain daylight fits the format of someone willing to take for a living rather than someone willing to work for a living. And too often this is occurring in our community, leaving many to invest time and money into open carry and concealed weapon permits. One of the restaurants I patronize has a huge banner promoting how to get a permit to carry a weapon. They are using their place of business to encourage classes in order to get holstered. Yes, this is Black ownership and it’s not the only one in the Houston area. Black people are getting tired of being threatened and harmed by those who feel they have a right to your stuff.

Black on Black Crime is real. Whether it’s here in Houston Texas or Chicago where Oliver once served as a police officer, according to the Houston Chronicle, we need to separate those who are willing to rob for a living and those who are willing to work for a living.  If you want to get paid try working for a living.

According to news reporter Juan Williams, the high crime rate in the Black community is revving up the White backlash that may lead to police shootings.

The Center for Disease Control states that the No. 1 killer of Black men between the ages of 15 and 34 in 2010 was homicide, followed by accidents and disease of the heart. And you can be sure the overwhelming majority of the perpetrators of these homicides are Black men. It should also be stated here that the majority of White homicides are committed by White offenders.
