Hillary In The Driver’s Seat

Recently at Texas Southern University Hillary Clinton released both barrels, charging possible republican rivals with trying to stop millions of citizens from voting, by adding voting requirements that will disenfranchise minorities, young women and the poor.

By attacking former Gov. Rick Perry in his home state, former Sen. Hillary Clinton is sending a message to the democratic base made up largely of Blacks, Hispanics and young White women voters; that she is next in line for their support. These same voter were loyal to Barack Obama and not the democratic party, and that’s where the link is broken. Obama offered great communication skills, coupled with charisma and a promise of upward mobility for the poor, by providing good paying jobs and affordable healthcare. He missed the mark on infrastructure jobs and many high paying technical jobs went to skilled immigrants.

A movement is underway for a minimum wage pact of $15 an hour in much of the country by some fast food workers, and Hillary said she is in favor of increasing the minimum wage currently at $7.25. But she didn’t say she is in favor of $15 per hour. And on top of that democrats were outraged over Obama’s plans to cut social security and Medicare Benefits.

But Hillary hasn’t shown her hand yet and that bothers many on the left including Sen. Bernie Sanders, a democratic socialist who led the march on Washington to attack the President’s budget proposals by saying Obama is wrong to try and balance the budget on the backs of the poor, the sick and children. Hillary wants to remain as far to the right of Bernie as possible and to not alienate the moderate-to-conservative voters she will need to get elected. If Hillary is seen agreeing too much with Bernie on issues as free housing and health care and espousing other socialist ideas, her campaign may be over sooner than expected. She also has a problem with emails that’s not going away.

So she will be continue to straddle-the-line to avoid being pinned down as too liberal on domestic issues, and avoid problems on foreign issues such as Benghazi from the right and her support for the Iraq war on the left. If the worst comes to shove and she has to bail, democrats have a replacement waiting-in-the-wings in former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley, who is patiently waiting for her to crash and burn.
